1. EDITOR'S NOTE

I haven't been much of an editor of late. It has been almost a year since the last newsletter. I'm semi-retired now and would gladly turn over the editing job to a more punctual person.

2. CONSTRUCTION

The city has put in new water and sewer lines and expanded the parking lot. Construction is almost complete on the Highway 72 extension.

The Buehler Park master plan calls for adding about half an acre of land north of the Highway 72 extension to Buehler Park. This will be a welcomed addition to the park. (Photo below)

The city has installed a water fountain in the park. It's under lock and key; but we have been using city water to water the young trees during the summer's dry spells. (Photo below)

Spring 2019 is slated to bring new bathrooms to Buehler Park and perhaps a drinking fountain too.

3. TREES

The Rolla Parks and Recreation Department has done an awesome job of protecting Buehler Park's trees during construction.

A 15 foot eastern redbud growing in the construction area was uprooted and replanted in the meadow area. We watered it well over the summer and it seems to have survived the trauma of being uprooted.

The 46 trees we have planted since the court battle ended in 2007 have all done well over the growing season. The Parks Department moved one out of the construction area. It is also doing well.

4. DOG-PARK

We continue to oppose the dog-park that the city plans to build in the meadow area. We will be watching this development very closely.

5. GREAT RIVERS ENVIRONMENTAL LAW CENTER VISITS BUEHLER PARK

Great Rivers Environmental Law Center, the public interest environmental law center that saved Buehler Park from destruction continues to take an interest in Buehler Park. Kathleen Henry (president), Bruce Morrison (general counsel) and Sarah Willey (outreach and development director) visited Buehler Park in June (Photo below).

If you have not done so recently, please consider making a donation to Great Rivers Environmental Law Center. Checks can be mailed to Great Rivers Environmental Law Center, 319 No. Fourth St., Suite 800, St. Louis, MO 63102. Great Rivers is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Donations can also be made online from Great Rivers' website. Please help Great Rivers so they can continue to help others as they helped us.
